QUEENS, NEW YORK & LONDON, ENGLAND- The camera’s light reveals a vivid graffiti back drop and exposed brick façade. Its lens captures the pantomime of spirited words as evidenced by the gesticulation and facial expressions of the men being filmed- this is a hip-hop video shoot, and these are MCs.
In the fashion of true hip-hop ambassadors, Deep Foundation and Hydroponikz team up with UK Beat-box Champion, MC Zani, to give the game a much needed dose of classic, in posse-cut-form. Appositely titled “At Your Request,” the no-nonsense, sugar-free, bitter-beer-face-inducing lyrics come across as a statement that these MCs plan on sticking around, so get used to it. Composed to the musical accompaniment of Generation ILL, a group of talented producers who partnered with DF & Hydro on their most recent collaborative EP entitled “Deep Foundation and Hydroponikz present; Generation ILL,” “At Your Request” aptly sets the tone for the entire project. An unmistakable homage to hip-hop’s golden age of crackling speakers, Maxell cassette tapes and orange handled box-cutters, the song stands as a reminder of the days when auto-tune was limited to the likes of Cher and an MCs words were still full of meaning… dictionary.
The music video features London and New York footage, shot by Filme Films and Wayne Himself & Jazzy Jeffy Buenaventura respectively, directed and edited by Wayne Himself.
MCs by order of vocals & appearance: MC Zani, M.U.G. SHOT, ILL Poe, CeeJay and Hydroponikz. Special guest appearance by resident B-Boy Michael “Suitkace” Capito.
